I wanted to post this link with notes from a lecture on Bible Material for Children. It is from The Children’s Hour blog, which is found over on the right under Blogroll. It has some great recommendations for books and other resources for kids.

Al Mohler on Children and Technology November 30, 2007

First, I want to commend you once again for doing such a wonderful job of posting each week. Your diligence is a consistent encouragement to me. Today won’t be a long post for me, but I thought it would at least be good to get the habit going once again.
Al Mohler writes about the way in which younger children are demanding technological gadgets for Christmas. And demand is indeed a good word. Note the way in which some of the parent’s quoted feel helpless in the face of their children’s demands. What will become of the next generation?
Also, note the way in which this article reinforces our conviction regarding toys and a very limited exposure to television and movies. I am so thankful for being pointed to the various books and resources that led us to make such a decision. Let’s strive to be diligent to provide contexts for them to truly be at play. For that is what children really want and need. Computers games, on the whole, simply do not count. They also fail to bring parents the joy of seeing their children make up their own games and toys. It really is great isn’t it?
Thankful for creative play,
Joe
Questions for the Kids October 15, 2007

Lord willing, we will listen to or watch some (or all) of the messages from the Desiring God Conference this past weekend. I thought I would make sure to share these questions that a pastor Piper knows regularly asks his kids. They are right on, but surely one reason why we don’t ask such things is because we might not want to face the answers!
But that is surely no way to live right. So let’s be diligent to know what our kids see in us. Lord knows, we cannot hide anything from them!
Thankful for the accountability our kids give us,
Joe
So Slow to Believe September 26, 2007

I was going to write this post on unbelief on this blog, but decided to do so on the Seeking Him blog instead. It relates Abigail’s inclination towards unbelief–and ours. After writing it, I could not help but give thanks for the Lord’s patience and vow to grow in patience myself.
Seeking Him with you,
Joe
Being a True Man June 2, 2007

Thanks for getting us rolling again. Since it is the weekend, I am putting up a link to a blog from Dr. Mohler’s website. Mohler is talking about an article that shows the deep responsibility that men have in modeling true manhood to their sons. As if you men didn’t know the impact you had already, this article will drive it home. Joe, thanks for being a true man for our son!

Let’s just designate this week as ‘Link Week.’ Anyhow, haven’t read this one yet, but I am posting it to make sure I do! I am confident it is a good one.
Until later,

We do have a busy week, so it might be good to post a quick link each day. Here is one I found. The rest of the cite is full of quick links that I will someday point to.
Catch you soon,

Yes, I have been a blogging slacker the past few days. I’m all the more thankful for the cross. He knows my frame, that I am but dust–so I even struggle to blog! But Lord willing, I will be back on track this coming week. Until then, here is a good article from A.W. Pink. I confess up front that I gave it a quick read. But I won’t stop there. I promise to read it all the way through!
Seeking Him with you,
Joe
UPDATE: I have read it all the way through in detail and can now wholeheartedy recommend it! We can definitely use these well-said reminders periodically. I’m sure that goes for every parent.
Loving Your Wayward Child May 10, 2007

So yes, you were the one who showed me this article, but hey, it is my day to make a post! Anyhow, this is a great article from Abraham Piper called “12 Ways to Love Your Wayward Child.” As you said, I hope and pray that our children will be faithful to the Lord throughout the whole of their lives, but there are no guarantees. That is for sure. So the parenting wisdom in this article should be considered by all.
Until tomorrow,
Joe

As many may know the Children’s Desiring God Conference is currently going on in Minneapolis. So I thought I would link to the Desiring God blog that is giving all the updates on the conference. The link will take you to all the posts on Children Desiring God where you can also find their online catalog to check out!
