Recommendations April 7, 2008

Joe,

I just wanted to give two parenting resources recommendations for today.  The first is a book you read and highly recommended called Christian Living in the Home by Jay Adams.  Only one of the chapters deals specifically with parents (it is called Discipline with Dignity), but the whole book is excellent and worth the read!

The other is a message we purchased from Redeemer Presbyterian church (Tim Keller’s church).  The message is by Brent Bounds and is called Train Up a Child: The Spiritual and Psychological Development of Children (part 1).

Both of these were great eye openers to me and I think would be a blessing to many!

Joe,

I wanted to post this link with notes from a lecture on Bible Material for Children. It is from The Children’s Hour blog, which is found over on the right under Blogroll. It has some great recommendations for books and other resources for kids.

Recommended Resource April 15, 2007

Joe,

This resource comes from Ligon Duncan’s church in Jackson, Mississippi. The book is called “Train Up a Child” and is a guide for training your child year by year, and even includes hymns to learn and books to read each year. Although, we would not agree with the infant baptism point of view, it is sure to be grounded theologically! The link will take you to the whole bookstore, but I am referring to the first book listed. I am sure the others are good as well though!

Pregnancy Centers March 31, 2007

Joe,

I wanted to post this article from Time Magazine on the new rise of pregnancy centers in the country.  It was very saddening to me to see the way people can support abortion so vehemently.  It also made me realize as Christians what a responsibility we have to lovingly involve ourselves in this cause.  One great ministry to support is Heartbeat of Miami.  For where our treasure is, there our heart will be also!

Working to serve the least of these,

Joe,

Until you return I thought I would just put a recommendation up in regards to my last post. This book is called “The Gospel for Children” and would be a help to any needing some extra teaching on effective ways of inputing the gospel into the lives of our children.

For the sake of the gospel,

Music for Memorization March 18, 2007

Joe,

Just a quick Sabbath recommendation here today. I came across Seeds Music and thought I would recommend their CD’s to any parents looking for good music to help kids memorize Scripture. They use the NIV version, which may not work for some families. I e-mailed the company to ask if they were planning on doing any in the ESV in the future. The founder e-mailed me back and said he had discerned through prayer when starting the project that he should just keep it to one version. He did suggest though that they sell split tracks of the songs and the ESV verses could be added in. He also gave me a tip that a sale will be going on this next week. You can check out their products and listen to samples of the tracks on their website.

Singing and making melody in our hearts,

Each week we are going to do a recommendation on Sunday.  It may be a book, article or message to listen to.  For our first week, I am posting a book that I have seen recommended various places, and as a mother is one I would like to read!
